Brokeback Mountain And Stanley "tookie" Williams

Stanley "Tookie" Williams is about to be put down like an unwanted pet. Governor (can you believe this shit?) Schwarzenegger explained away his refusal to grant clemency with something to the effect of, "Well, Tookie never admitted his guilt in these crimes (the four murders of which he was convicted and sentenced to death) and he's never asked for forgiveness for these crimes."

Yes, Tookie never admitted and never asked for forgiveness, but that's because he DENIES ever committing the crimes. Why is clemency dependent on Tookie confessing to a crime he didn't commit? What is this? China?! Pseudo-surprisingly, yes! Yes, we're in China! You didn't know? This is the Chinese system where if you confess--regardless of guilt--they let you go or something like that. So, you get your freedom, but you go down in history as being guilty of something you didn't do so that someone else can save face.

This is why China--and everybody else on Earth, really--laughs at Americans. Our system is no different than everybody else's. It's no better, except in terms of production value, except in terms of our denial of the truth and our willingness to turn a blind eye and remain in denial. What a fucking joke. Ha ha. Oh, wait. This isn't funny. I forgot.

It shocks me how people cling to convictions as if that has anything to do with the truth or the identity of the truly guilty. It's so easy to convict someone of a crime, especially with circumstantial evidence. Any first year prosecutor can prove you committed crime--even if you didn't--as long as they use circumstantial evidence. 'Cause you know, those circumstances... they're tricky. And, you know what I mean. That's how they got Tookie.

I firmly believe they convicted Tookie for being Tookie and all that that meant, not because of those crimes. He didn't do that shit. Even if he did, they didn't convict him of that. It's the same story with Michael Jackson. "They" wanted to convict him, but not of a crime. They wanted to convict HIM--Michael Jackson. "They" wanted to bring down Bill Clinton, not because of anything he did, but because of who he was and whatever that meant. The same is true for Martin Luther King, Jr, Malcolm X, John F. Kennedy and his son John F. Kennedy, Jr. You follow me?

Of course, the Bush administration would love it if folks rioted over Tookie's death. That would give them a great excuse to kill lot's people, lock up tons more, declare martial law. It would also make Blacks look really bad and dry up any sympathy or disquiet folks may have about what went on in the aftermath of Katrina. So, with that in mind, I'd be tickled if no riot ensued. But, somehow, I know that even there is no riot, they'll find a way to concoct one and report that. Of course, 10 months from now, we'll find out that there was only 5 people making noise and reports were "inaccurate" or "exaggerated". Whatever!

We need a revolution. I don't want to hear shit about anything anymore. All this talking is just... talking.

No revolution has ever been peaceful. You know that, right? Every revolution is paid for in blood. That's the only true currency. The only things worth having in this world come at a dear price measured solely in blood. If you're not willing to pony up, just get the fuck out of the way.

Speaking of dear prices, I saw Brokeback Mountain tonight. Ridiculous movie with an even more ridiculous audience who seemed audibly disappointed that there wasn't more screwing in the movie. I mean, did they think they were coming to see a gay porno? It's an Ang Lee film for christ's sake. At the end they all seemed shocked that there was a sad ending. Did they think that these two men were going to live happily ever after on a cold-ass mountain? The mere idea of that is reason enough to discontinue this nation, to decommission this thing called the United States. If you don't know why, then you're truly lost and I do not have time to explain it to you.

Dearest Tookie, may light perpetual shine upon you in the presence of the one, true GOD and I hope you have a wide and well-lit grave with a handsome and kind attendant to see to your every need until the day of judgment.
